RNDR is an ERC-20 utility currency that artists use to exchange for GPU computation capacity from GPU providers on the network (node operators). Prior to payment disbursal and art release, RNDR uses a mixed manual and automatic proof of work mechanism, or in this case, proof of render, to ensure that all art has been correctly produced.RenderToken (RNDR) is a distributed GPU rendering network created on the Ethereum blockchain with the goal of connecting artists and studios in need of GPU computing capacity with mining partners willing to rent out their GPU capabilities. RNDR was created in 2009 by OTOY, Inc. CEO Jules Urbach and launched in 2017, with its first public token sale in October of that year, followed by a private sale period from January to May of the following year, with a total of 117,843,239 RNDR sold at a price of 1 RNDR = $0.25 USD equivalent of token. Early adopters were onboarded onto the RNDR Beta Testnet during the private sale period, when beta node operators and artists collaborated with the RNDR team in creating and testing the protocol.
